Astronomical markup language (AML) is a markup language derived from XML that is used for recording and transferring the astronomical observations and information over network.

AML defines a meta-data block that contains information about the AML file, its version, date of creation, author, etc. The other parts of the document describe various AML objects. The different documents created in AML have links between them. These documents are usually clustered together by a tool with the graph-partitioning algorithm.
